weekend in paris, by robyn sisman

“Weekend in Paris” surprised me. In good and bad ways.

Let me start by saying that it’s worth reading, but it’s not the shining light the cover promises. It’s basically a story of a small-town girl, Molly, who runs away to Paris for the weekend on a whim (she was supposed to go with her boss for a conference, but we learn in the first few chapters what a creep he is).

The story chronicles Molly’s adventures through Paris, from meeting an exciting Australian (Alicia) who steals Molly away to a nightclub immediately, to riding away later that night with a handsome Frenchman (Fabrice) on the back of his motorbike.

The novel is engaging, that’s for sure. Every page of Molly’s adventure sucks you in and makes you wish – for just one weekend – you could hop a train to Paris. Maybe some of you reading this can, but I’m on the west coast of the U.S. No trains to Paris for me.

Even though Molly is holding a glass of red wine on the cover of the novel, for me this was a white for sure. Just as the book isn’t an instant classic, I think a quick, fun, flirty read like this calls for a cheap, fun, and flirty white: Sutter Home Moscato. This sweet wine reminds me of the sweetness and innocence of Molly when she arrives in Paris.

The book is a quick read, and a lot of fun. Parts of it are a little obvious, but who cares? Grab a glass, grab a pillow, and enjoy your Weekend in Paris.
